I just read of Phil Everly's death. I can't count the number of hours I've spent listening to their music. I still do. I carry a greatest hits CD in the car with me. A giant in my life. They taught me how to sing. My first slow dance holding a girl close. The memories are running through my mind as the tears fill my eyes. God bless.
i can easily name several songs i grew up hearing...
ReplyDeleteit is def a sad day...and now the start of another year of loss...
I guess at my age it's to be expected. But they seem to be dropping at a greater rate.
DeleteWhenever we want them all we have to do is dream.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I hear you.
A sweet thought Sherry. Thank you.
DeleteFirst slow dance, being held close by a boy...great memories, great song.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I fist went to Germany (Ramstein AFB) in '63 there were three prominent American artists on the jukebox, Elvis, Buddy Holly and the Everlys.
DeleteElvis - for obvious reasons - was very popular in Germany. He drove through my hometown on several occasions. I was too young to remember that, but I had a boyfriend once with a much older sister who remembered standing by the side of the road as the army truck drove by, swooning and screaming.
DeleteThey had some great songs. The Beatles (among others) were heavily influenced by the Everly Brothers' vocal harmonies.
ReplyDeleteR.I.P. Phil.
They were still on the jukebox all over Europe in the early 60s. Of course, for us Southern boys, they were on the radio in the 50s.
Deletethis was such a sweet and tender post. lovely.
ReplyDeleteI remember their gorgeous and seemingly effortless harmonies.... and melodies....
thanks for this tribute and for the memories and comments it evoked.
Thank you Harlequin. Good to see you up and around again.
DeleteI too still have ‘The Greatest Hits’. Loved them way back when I was young and foolish.
ReplyDeleteStill do, but then I still am.
And now they’ve been re-made and we are told that they weren’t always the greatest buddies. Is there no shame? Can ‘they’ not leave me my illusions?
You would never know it from the beautiful harmonies. I prefer to live there.
DeleteI agree...the first time I heard the song Wake up Little Susie(my nickname with family) I was on my first date with my first boyfriend..we went to a drive in movie and I had to be home by 10 no mater if the movie wasn't over..we fell asleep..and I woke up to Phil and Don telling me to wake up...I know the words to every one of their songs..most songs I know a line or two and then I'd hum the rest..not with their music..I knew and still do know every single word. and was madly in love with Don..sigh*...feck.
ReplyDeleteThe reverb in the gang showers in college helped us try to sound like them. Great songs and harmonies.
