People Who Changed My Life - 2014

I just read of Phil Everly's death.   I can't count the number of hours I've spent listening to their music.  I still do.  I carry a greatest hits CD in the car with me. A giant in my life.  They taught me how to sing.  My first slow dance holding a girl close.  The memories are running through my mind as the tears fill my eyes.  God bless.

    1. I guess at my age it's to be expected. But they seem to be dropping at a greater rate.

    1. I remember when I fist went to Germany (Ramstein AFB) in '63 there were three prominent American artists on the jukebox, Elvis, Buddy Holly and the Everlys.

    2. Elvis - for obvious reasons - was very popular in Germany. He drove through my hometown on several occasions. I was too young to remember that, but I had a boyfriend once with a much older sister who remembered standing by the side of the road as the army truck drove by, swooning and screaming.

  4. They had some great songs. The Beatles (among others) were heavily influenced by the Everly Brothers' vocal harmonies.

    R.I.P. Phil.

    1. They were still on the jukebox all over Europe in the early 60s. Of course, for us Southern boys, they were on the radio in the 50s.

  6. I too still have ‘The Greatest Hits’. Loved them way back when I was young and foolish.
Still do, but then I still am.

And now they’ve been re-made and we are told that they weren’t always the greatest buddies. Is there no shame? Can ‘they’ not leave me my illusions?

  7. I agree...the first time I heard the song Wake up Little Susie(my nickname with family) I was on my first date with my first boyfriend..we went to a drive in movie and I had to be home by 10 no mater if the movie wasn't over..we fell asleep..and I woke up to Phil and Don telling me to wake up...I know the words to every one of their songs..most songs I know a line or two and then I'd hum the rest..not with their music..I knew and still do know every single word. and was madly in love with Don..sigh*...feck.

  8. The reverb in the gang showers in college helped us try to sound like them. Great songs and harmonies.
