“These gentlemen are the moral equivalents of America’s founding fathers.” — Ronald Regan while introducing the Mujahideen leaders to media on the White house lawns (1985). Of course, many of these "gentlemen" went on to form the Taliban.
On opposing expansion of the Redwoods National Park while governor of California...
"A tree is a tree. How many more do you have to look at?"

Hardly 'nuff said.
ReplyDeleteHow about this - My mother a hard core "Black" Republican and Goldwater conservative hated Ronnie so much she refused to vote in 1980 rather than give her vote to Ronald Reagan. She died a disappointed conservative over what Ronald had done to her beloved Party.
I switched from Republican to Democrat in 1980 and voted for Jimmy, who I think was actually a damn fine president given the quality of the field since he was in office.
And it irks me no end that Obama admires him.
Not wanting to speak ill of the dead, I shall excuse him as being senile at that time.
ReplyDeleteI hear you MRM. I'm with you on both counts. Reagan was the worst thing to happen to our country in my lifetime. I've met Jimmy a couple of times. Did a post on him you might enjoy: http://termitesofsin.blogspot.com/2009/07/mr-jimmy.html
ReplyDeleteI too was once a Republican but quit during the Goldwater years following the Civil Rights Movement.
LGS... him and about half the nation that voted for him.
Let the dead bury the dead.
ReplyDeleteRick Scott, the new FL governor, is like Reagan on steroids. He's pretty terrifying.
ReplyDeleteWhen Ronnie died the columnist Ted Rall called him a proto-Bush. That pretty much sums it up me.
ReplyDeletePunch... I've always wondered exactly what does that mean?
ReplyDeleteGropie... Scott even looks like a dick.
BB... The ultimate front man.
Yeah what a great guy, left a trail if crimes and misdemeanors marked by pre-presidential treason for the cheney and bush boys to follow. All the while setting the nation he called shining light to go dim a mere 30 years later.
