It's Official. The women are smarter, the men are good looking, and the children are above average.

From the Huffington Post:

Conservatives and liberals don't seem to agree about much, and they might not agree about recent studies linking conservatism to low intelligence and "low-effort" thinking.

As The Huffington Post reported in February, a study published in the journal "Psychological Science" showed that children who score low on intelligence tests gravitate toward socially conservative political views in adulthood--perhaps because conservative ideologies stress "structure and order" that make it easier to understand a complicated world.

Ouch.

And now there's the new study linking conservative ideologies to "low-effort" thinking.

"People endorse conservative ideology more when they have to give a first or fast response," the study's lead author, University of Arkansas psychologist Dr. Scott Eidelman, said in a written statement released by the university.

"Low-effort thinking."  I suppose that's about the same as "ignorance is bliss."  Although, I must confess, I find myself more and more gravitating towards low-effort thinking.  Maybe that's why I choose old-west movies, good old boys driving in circles, or golf, to accompany my afternoon nap.

So the good news is, "science" has uncovered facts and statistics to prove that conservative dumb-asses really are as dumb as we have always believed.  But the bad news is, there's an overwhelming preponderance of them.

Geez.  Can't win for losing.

Yeah I am all for that not being able to respond quickly thing and think at the same time.

  2. Although any system or idealogy that requires low-effort thinking does definitely appeal. It's like watching crap on TV after a gruelling day...

  3. HA! I love this. In all of Georgia, but especially in my county, there aren't many of us democrats left, so I rarely waste my breath trying to talk politics with any of the "I read it in a right wing email, so by God, it must be Gospel" non-thinkers around these parts.

  5. Some of our right wingnuts can read, too. They are not good at making decisions, however.

  6. Unfortunately, like Susan I have given up trying to talk with rabid conservatives. I'd like to meet a rational conservative but I am coming to believe finding the mythical Bigfoot would be easier.

    2. Not surprised about the link between conservative ideologies and "low effort thinking". What do you expect when they have stalwarts like Newt - perhaps a reference to cold blooded amphibian like thinking. Squirrels by comparison are pretty smart despite having brains the size of walnuts or is that brains always occupied with thinking of walnuts. Please note that I did not rush to reply to this post. No sirreee. No fast response here.

    3. Yes indeed, those squirrels are crafty little devils. But regardless of their political, or thinking, persuasion, they hold a trump card... they're cute.

  7. I do believe liberals are cursed with a more nuanced approach to life. I mean, we can't eat a sandwich without figuring out how the beef was raised or whether the wheat was local or if the napkins were made with child labor in Sri Lanka. We can't flick on the heat without wondering what was destroyed to make the energy. Conservatives are all Sandwich: good. Heat: good.

  9. So, what else is new?

It's so much easier to get angry than it is to stop and think. Trouble is, I find myself getting angry too and all the thinking in the world can't make me less angry sometimes. Particularly, when the dumb asses get to rule the world.

    1. "Low effort thinking" that's for me. I'm too worn out to think.

  11. i suppose low effort thinking might also be for anyone whose mind cannot quite get a handle on all the complexity of the things that matter.... if ya don't mind, ( or don't have one that gets regular exercise) very little matters.

btw, the pics of the day with your grand kids are lovely ( and they are adorable)
