Sea Serpents and Other Stuff

It seems impossible that any large animal can exist on this planet that has not yet been photographed, detected, inspected and dissected, but apparently so.  How many sightings of sea serpents and big foots and space ships have to occur before we believe them?

Here's the latest.  Two Norwegian fishermen on a lazy afternoon when up pops Puff the Magic Dragon.  One of them took a picture with his cell phone.  What do you think?  Real or not?

And something that simply makes my blood boil, mankind's total ignorance and arrogance towards the "dumb animals" who share this planet with us.  Here's a little series of photos from a British wildlife park.  Two gorilla brothers who were separated three years ago are reunited.  They immediately recognized each other and ran to each other for hugs and touching.  What do you think?  Do these look like uncaring dumb animals to you?

And how about this for a thrill.  Shot at a wildlife park in Africa.

What we do to this beautiful garden we call earth makes me weep.

    1. I would love to have experienced that myself. I still get a kick out of the raccoons running up to me at night when I feed them.

  2. I know. Humans are so arrogant. We're the only ones who are self aware. We're the only ones who have language and communicate. We're the only ones who show compassion to other members of our species (and we increasingly don't do that). We're the only ones who have long term memory. We're the only ones who recognize other members of our species or other species. the list goes on and on. Elephants who are separated for many years also show recognition and loving care after being reunited. this planet would be better off without us. we use and abuse with complete disregard for the future, even to the point of making the planet inhabitable for ourselves. Yeah, we're pretty smart all right.

    1. Totally know where you're coming from Ellen I'm with you but animals have pretty much all of the traits you mentioned. They do communicate far more than we know and they do show compassion and they never forget a friend or foe or where a sunflower seed might be found for that matter. And they do recognize each other, if not by sight by smell. They are far more intelligent that we give them credit for. I look at all of the emotions expressed by a dog; happiness, sadness, fear, affection, anger, anxiousness, and I look at all of the ways they communicate; tail up, down or waging, ears up down, smile, grimace, happy bark, alarm bark, growl, chops licking... around for hunger, up and down for thirst, and those are just the ones that come to mind. The intelligence of a spider who quickly learns to build his web high enough that I don't run into it. Flowers that learn to bloom at a certain height so that they don't get mowed. This is a whole other post.

    2. Oh, I know, I agree completely. those aren't my beliefs. I was paraphrasing what the unenlightened think of animals. I happen to think all life is sentient and treat it as such. even our brothers and sisters who choose to plant themselves and stay in one spot. I've read some very interesting things about plant 'intelligence' and communication. And to assume that animals aren't self conscious and don't the same attributes as we do is ridiculous. Anyone who pays attention can see they do.

  3. I think that first picture is of a tree or something.

But the gorilla brothers are beautiful.

    1. If the fishermen are to be believed, they said they went to the spot after the serpent had submerged and there was nothing but a few ripples in the water.

  4. Scientists continue to discover new species all the time, and I believe there are many more yet to be discovered. I just saw a TV show recently about sea serpents, and think it's highly likely that such creatures do exist. (Seems to me a group of military guys in California actually found, and local scientists studied, the carcass of what might very well have been one, as it bears a striking resemblance to those depicted in drawings over the years.) So, yeah, I think the first pic might be authentic.

The pics of the gorillas are amazing. We so underestimate the capabilities of the other creatures we share this planet with.

And the video? What can I say? Talk about a close encounter of the unexpected kind. Amazing. That guy will NEVER forget that experience. Lucky guy.

    1. I'm not so sure about the Yeti, but there certainly could be creatures in the deep we've never seen. I heard it postulated once that there is a honeycomb of underwater caves surrounding the earth that could be interconnected. Just a thought.

Yeah, me too! I get sick to my stomach watching documentaries showing how greedy bastards and bitches are wrecking the planet. There was more real humanity in those gorillas than in 99.999% of the people working on Wall Street.

  7. Norway is a magical land inhabited by trolls, so why not sea serpents, too?
