WTF? Gun Sales Up After Shooting

Are we a sick nation or what?

A news item from Bloomberg News

After a Glock-wielding gunman killed six people at a Tucson shopping center on Jan. 8, Greg Wolff, the owner of two Arizona gun shops, told his manager to get ready for a stampede of new customers.

Wolff was right. Instead of hurting sales, the massacre had the $499 semi-automatic pistols -- popular with police, sport shooters and gangsters -- flying out the doors of his Glockmeister stores in Mesa and Phoenix.

"We're at double our volume over what we usually do," Wolff said two days after the shooting spree that also left 14 wounded, including Democratic Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who remains in critical condition.

Unfortunately, there seems to be no corresponding surge in sales of the "demon weed" that, according to "knowledgeable officials," was the source of the problem in the first place.

Just remember folks, guns don't kill people, people do.  Right?

  1. I have more concern about this than I do that Independence class ship. But then what's a few more guns on the street eh. FBI says year over gun sales stats jumped 5% since last week. Uh can I get three thirty round clips with that order of Glock?

  2. What used to be comfort over knowing that no one in their right mind would invade an armed country has now turned into fear that the armed country is attacking itself.

  3. Mr. C's comment makes it sound like our nation has an autoimmune disease. I hadn't thought of it like that before, but it makes sense. The body has turned on itself.

I'm so depressed and worried these days I can't even blog. When I've shut my mouth, you know there's serious trouble in Mudsville

  4. Shit. I'm so discombobulated by all this mess that I thought I was at Punch's blog. Another sign of serious trouble . . .

  5. Nothing succeeds like success.
PENo...Those are two of the scariest thoughts I have heard in a long time.
    a) you discombobulated with mouth shut.
    b) me mistaken for Mr. Charleston.
    make that three
    c) the walkin' man with a 30 round clip Glock 9.

I have never sucked my thumb in my life but today I am beginning to see the comfort it might hold.

  7. Good thinking, Mr. C
I'll be taking the night off, too.

  8. I think I will just go up the street and by a modified Mac 10 ready for full auto. What else can i do I don't drink anymore, the drugs are running low and I have a viral urge to eat someone.

  9. Well for God's sake, if you're gonna eat someone, make it a banker.

  10. Not surprising. These mass shooters are the greatest advertisement for Glocks. Sales also increased exponentially after the Virgina Tech massacre.

It makes you wonder how many Americans are thinking "copycat".

  11. judging by the level to which our culture has sunk, nothing surprises me anymore.

  12. I am qualified expert on the M-16 and .45 from my army days, and I can shoot em up with the best, but I never, ever bought into the gun cult, even when I thought I was a killer for freedom. It is a part of this country's culture that needs to be exorcised. But, it won't.

I came over to sign in on this this, having not done it the last time I read it two days ago. It is equally as depressing as then and I have nothing to add to my non-comment. Fuck, shit, and piss, we are doomed.

  13. Disgusting. A person I know who shall not be named has a bumper sticker declaring, "If guns kill people, do pencils take tests?" Aside from the "what's a pencil?" argument in this age of technology, I continue to be alarmed at how easy it is to obtain a device that can kill. It's easier to buy a gun than it is to buy a house you can't afford.

  14. In my opinion, people are just afraid of a knee jerk reaction by politicians to limit the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
