It was the war to end all wars.
They couldn’t imagine that such carnage was
possible.
Chivalry, gallantry and honor
were dead.
Without that, what good war?
They thought it the last war ever
fought.
They celebrated its end. Declared a holiday, Armistice Day. They
were wrong.
So, they changed it to Memorial Day.

if only we could see the end of war...and war def changed...we mechanizes, entrenched, depersonalized which put honor&chivalry out the window...tight little piece man...
ReplyDeletewar is intrinsic to humanity I think. this country especially has been at war for nearly every year of its existence.
ReplyDeleteThe 11th Hour, of the 11th Day, of the 11th Month.
ReplyDeleteTHAT peace lasted just 22 years!
Very nice Holiday Post Mr. C
Loved your tribute and Pic.
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
"...what good war?"
ReplyDeleteExcellent question, fitting tribute.
Never ends--never.
ReplyDeleteNo war can end war.
ReplyDeleteWell-said. Sad, but true.
ReplyDeleteThis is really good. I walked around the cemetery today with my son to think about all the death from war and commemorate those who served. The world of war is only going to get worse, and that is saying a lot, as I don't know of any good war.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Can't add anything.
ReplyDeleteArmistice... I like the sound of that much better. but not to be...
