Five miles don’t seem like much. You can see it from here. It’s just up there.
Yet, within that puny little five miles is everything we depend on for our very existence.

I wish there
was some way that people could actually see it so they will realize just how fragile this
island Earth is.
!! We do take so much for granted and in our ignorance think we have it here, forever, no matter what. Nice conscientious 55.
ReplyDeletesmiles...i would love to see the earth from space for real, in person...we do take for granted our world...hope it lasts is all i am saying...
ReplyDeleteFIVE MILES?
ReplyDeleteIsn't that how far our parents had to walk to school?
Who Knew?
Loved your putting things in perspective 55 My Friend.
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
Well said. But it's likely that, even if people could see the fragility with their own eyes... some of them would deny it.
ReplyDeleteAn excellent and important message.
ReplyDeleteYou'll find mine here.
Actually, this photos is somewhat misleading. The five mile life limit is the thin blue area between the earth and the orange glow. Yipes!
ReplyDeleteI guess all of life is fragile. And yes we would do well to cae for this earth.
ReplyDeleteGood to keep that perspective in mind. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful thought-provoking write!
ReplyDeleteWon't we be living on a terra-formed Mars soon?
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if we remembered the finite nature of our world.
Flash 55 - come on, i'm worth it
Beautiful photo. My sentiments exactly.
ReplyDeleteif only! great 55!
ReplyDeleteRemember that beautiful photo from the astronauts with the first glimpse of our blue marble. I loved it but didn't realize it was only 5 miles.
ReplyDelete"This has happened before and it will happen again..." Damn, I miss Battlestar Galactica.
ReplyDeleteI laugh when people say we are destroying the earth..eventually we'll fuck it up so bad we'll all be extinct and the earth will keep right on turning and healing till she's back to normal.
ReplyDeletetermites of sin
ReplyDeleteAnd would they get it if they could?
ReplyDeleteA beautiful and poignant reminder of how much we have to fight for, and how important it is to keep fighting.
